Under Dalton McGuinty we are paying more for Health Care and getting less!
Dalton brags in his election commercials how he cut wait times in the Health Care field, and I wonder why I have to wait ten months for my appointment with a specialist.
McGuinty’s cutting of formerly OHIP Covered Necessary Health Services
After promising not to decrease any health services covered by OHIP, and also not to raise taxes, he did both on the same day by implementing the Ontario Health Premium and delisting coverage of Optometry (Eye), Chiropractic and Physiotherapy Services for Ontarians.
He closed Emergeny Rooms in Port Colbourne and Fort Erie
because there is not enough money. There have been two deaths since then because by the time they got to St. Catharine's it was too late.
But he then awards a hospital in Toronto three million dollars - of course, that was in the riding where there just happens to be a by-election to replace George Smitherman! And he has money to give himself and all his MPP’s a 14% raise!
Dalton’s LIHNs cutting health care jobs
Dalton’s Liberal election commercials are accusing Tim Hudak of cutting jobs in the health care sector while McGuinty’s government is doing the same thing. When I complained to the Liberal government a couple of years ago when they were going to cut the jobs of 300 nurses at Centenary Hospital, I received a letter from them saying that they were not responsible for doing that because it was our Local Health Integration Network (LHIN) that was doing it. But it was McGuinty’s government, under the stewardship of George Smitherman, that created the LHINs in 2006 to ensure that our “health care dollars would be used effectively”, (political gobbledegook for cutting jobs and blaming someone else for the dirty deed). In other words, they downloaded the dirty job cutting so that we can’t blame the Liberal Government anymore! And these LHINs were created by George Smitherman despite reports that that type of health care regime had failed in other provinces.
LHIN spending scandals
The recent Auditor General’s report lambasted the McGuinty Liberal government for a huge waste of money in those LHINs. Here, under the McGuinty Government, we find another E-Health-type of fiasco, where untendered contracts were awarded to consultants and lobbyists, in addition to lax expense controls leading to lavish world-wide vacations in thousand-dollar-a-night hotels, expensive lunches and boozy dinners all paid for by Ontario's hard-working taxpayers.
Hudak is merely suggesting to dispense with this nonsense if elected.
The McGuinty Ontario Health Premium
The highest tax increase in Ontario's history, implemented months after Dalton McGuinty was elected in 2003 on a promise not to increase taxes (even after signing a contract with the Canadian Taxpayers Federation not to increase taxes). McGuinty justified his healthcare tax increase on Ontario's Working Families by saying that he inherited an unknown deficit from the previous Government, yet here we now have the highest deficit that Ontario has ever had multiplied by the McGuinty Government and Ontario's Unions. This was the first many new taxes and user fees that Dalton McGuinty imposed on Ontario's Taxpayers in order to support his Union Boss buddies and allow the scandalous corruption to continue.
(See: Globe and Mail: The health care premium).
The McGuinty E-Health Scandal
cost Ontario's taxpayers $1.2 billion dollars in wasted tax dollars (and unprecedented delays in the computerization of Ontario's health records). Talk about Ontario’s gravy train and a true definition of McGuinty's wasteful mismanagement of the Ontario Government. Here, years after this initiative started and $1 billion dollars in the hole, and the job is not yet completed. The E-Health failure was famous not only for its complete lack of progress, but also for its constant usage of sole-sourcing and untendered contracts to Liberal friends, along with scandalous expenses logged by useless consultants, E-Health Executives and Upper Management. "E-Health" has now become a term that is synonymous with scandal, waste and boondoggle.
