1. Tell all your friends how important it is that they go to the polls to vote.
2. Volunteer to help your favourite candidate, by making phone calls, distributing flyers or going from door-to-door.
3. Talking politics with some people can be more hazardous than talking about religion or the new religion called ‘Global Warming’. If you want to stay on good terms with all your acquaintances, make sure you are informed about the topic. Don’t try to convert anyone who is stubborn.
4. Nevertheless, you should tell all your friends that they must vote. Stress the excuses like ‘my vote won’t make any difference’ or ‘better to vote for the devil you know’. Or ‘how do we know that Max will do any better?’ And to ensure they turn up to vote, remind them on voting day or the day before and offer them a ride to the polls. Make sure all your friends go out and vote.
5. If you want a successful business you will have to fight for your rights. I know it’s terrible, but that’s the way it is. You should set aside a couple of hours every week just to let the government know what you want and what they should not do. Taking time away from your business is good for you because your mind needs a break from the daily grind. You will get back to business refreshed and will be able to think more clearly. Volunteer a few hours every week during election time. Donate a few dollars to your favourite candidate. You will get a nice tax rebate. Go knocking on doors with your favourite candidate. If he/she gets elected you will have a friend in high places. You never know, it may help you down the road.
6. Spending a few hours away from your business during election time could bring you a whole new outlook on your business. Believe it or not, you may pick-up some new ideas for your business! And being away from your business a few hours every week will make your mind fresher on the job when you get back!
7. Look around for potentially good candidates to run for office; consider running for the job yourself. Lack experience? Don’t worry. Brains and business experience are more helpful and important than the kind of ‘experience’ politicians like Dalton McGuinty have displayed. The last eight years under McGuinty have been a disaster. Surely you could do better than that?
If you are interested in running or know someone you think should be running, please drop me an e-mail and we’ll arrange to help you.
